The History of Glasbey’s
Opened in 1954 by the late Mr John Glasbey, Glasbey Butchers was once one of 7 stores around Doncaster. Our other stores eventually fell to the rise of superstores, and became fewer and fewer until only our Cantley store remained. For 68 years, the store has remained in the same location, using some of the same well-loved recipes, with our longest running member of staff working with us for over 63 years.
Passed down to Mr Brian Haughan and his son Kevin following Mr Glasbey’s retirement, one thing seemed to be transparently clear, despite the change in ownership, the name of the business should remain the same. As an established part of our local community, we felt it was only right to continue the “Glasbeys” legacy.
A lot has changed over the years, but a lot has remained the same too. We still try to operate as close to a traditional butcher shop as possible in modern times, but also understand the importance of moving with the times to ensure we remain a vital pillar of the community for years to come. Having third-generation customers, and second-generation staff in our store is what gives us a real family feel.
We make the vast majority of our products in store, fresh, every single day. Using locally sourced produce, and a mixture of both original recipes and new, to bring our customers the best quality sausages, burgers, kebabs, and scotch eggs, just to name a few.
